That's the right attitude!
Here is an email I received from one of our clients in Changwon, near Busan.
I thought it was an excellent reminder to everyone about how important it is
to keep things in check.
Hi Jason,
Thank you for the timely message. Indeed, I hit that wall about a month ago.
Everything went wrong one day: frustration during shopping (the first time I
received poor customer service since I arrived), my kids drove me nuts, my
colleagues annoyed me, and I thought, "If I see someone spit on the street
one more time, I"m going to throw up." Not once during all this, however,
did I consider going back to Canada.
I came home that night in such a grumpy mood, drank half a bottle of wine,
did some writing, had a good sleep, went to yoga in the morning, and then a
better perspective arrived. I reminded myself of why I love it here, and
tried to recapture some of that over-flowing enthusiasm I had when I
arrived.
It's all about the attitude for sure. I bought a bike, went hiking, signed
up for art classes, and did go to a new restaurant-- two, in fact.
Based on all my reading, I knew to expect this, but I truly didn't believe
it would come. Changwon has a lot of charm, and everyday now I get
my attitude in check and take it all in stride. It's part of the process.
So I'm back to being in love with my life, and decided to approach these
mild days of madness with an open mind and a cheerful disposition. When else
would I ever have an opportunity to do this? Why ruin the experience with a
negative attitude?
So again, thanks for the email. It's nice to know these feelings are
"normal."
Now I'm off for my daily cappuccino, where the woman knows me and always
looks genuinely happy to see me. One of those small delights as a reminder.
Take care,
Monica
PS. I also booked a long weekend trip to Hong Kong for Buddha's birthday in
May. Hellooooo shopping!
